Rare Species

The tentacles of the “Krake” candelabra emerge from the surface of your table to grasp a candle… or to feel for an unsuspecting sailor.  Eight individual elements can be positioned as desired making a stunning and humorous centerpiece on any table, large or small.

We find the Krake exhibited together with many other examples of unexpected flora and fauna in “Rare Species”, Ornamentum gallery’s first solo exhibition with Swiss born David Bielander.  Snakes, berries, bugs and flowers are just some of the examples- creatures emerging from Bielander’s wit and transposed through extraordinary engineering of surprising materials into wearable jewelry works and decorative objects.

David Bielander received his MFA from the Academy of Fine Arts, in Munich, Germany, where he currently resides.  Bielander has held several teaching positions throughout Europe, has exhibited extensively internationally and was the recipient of the prestigious Herbert Hofmann Prize in 2010 and the Francoise van den Bosch Award 2012.
